Bellair: Beyond Property
Bellair is well known for its property development and investments across Scotland however we have successfully diversified into alternative investments in the past. Below is a flavour of some of the alternative investments made by Bellair.
Kingsfield Golf & Leisure
The opportunity to develop a new golf course in West Lothian was presented to Alistair Campbell by the Arkley family back in 2007. An avid golfer, Alistair recognised the potential to create a PGA specification 9-hole course with associated practice facilities, on land owned by the Arkleys.
The Arkley family are farmers by trade and this move was an important and valuable diversification from their farming business, which helped further expand the existing driving range facilities on site.
The course was designed by one of Scotland’s leading architects, Graeme Webster, and opened in 2009. Since then it has won a multitude of awards and accolades. Kingsfield welcomes experienced and aspiring golfers as well as professionals including Stephen Gallacher. Stephen has won on the European Tour three times and was a member of the winning 2014 Ryder Cup team at Gleneagles.
Kingsfield is a true asset to the community and the course has made a valuable contribution to the local economy whilst serving players of all abilities.
Stephen Gillespie Consultants Limited
An investment in a completely different market was with Stephen Gillespie Consultants Limited, a UK-based provider of flow metering services and systems based in Grangemouth. Founded in 1988 by Stephen Gillespie, a family friend of Alistair Campbell, Bellair saw the potential for the company, which was on an upward trajectory in the oil and gas industry.
Alistair Campbell’s involvement helped fuel the growth of the business, which led to its subsequent sale to international oil and gas company Petrofac in 2010.
This particular investment is every boy’s dream and when the opportunity to back a Ferrari racing team was presented, there was no holding Alistair Campbell back. A successful Scottish rally driver with an appetite and passion for cars, Alistair helped launch the successful Scuderia Ecosse team.
In just three years, Scuderia Ecosse went from being a new GT team to two-time British GT Champions, race winners in the Le Mans Series and the FIA GT Championship, and podium-finishers at the daunting Le Mans 24 Hour.
This provides examples of some of the alternative investments Bellair has supported. We are open to investment opportunities no matter how diverse the sector. If you have an idea or business proposition with potential, please get in touch.
